Kinship Care
This program provides child care subsidy to Kinship caregivers who have taken on the responsibility of caring for their relatives’ children. These children might be the caregiver’s siblings, nieces, nephews, or, most often, grandchildren. Eligibility determined by family size, employment and/or education hours, and income.
To be eligible for the Kinship program, kinship relatives present in the household must:
- Have a proven relationship with the relative by blood, marriage or legal guardianship and such person must be a relative with whom the dependent child is living.
- Employed (if under the age 60)
- Enrolled in a college/school/training program (if under the age of 60)
- In a combination of work and school (if under the age of 60)
- If not employed or disabled and more than 60 years of age child care may be provided as a part-time bases.
Household income must also meet the following requirements. Kinship caregivers who are under the age of 60 must have a family income that shall not exceed 350 percent of the federal poverty level. Kinship caregiver families in which one person is 60 years of age or greater must have a family income that shall not exceed 500 percent of the federal poverty level.
